It was April of 2019 when Little Cancun opened its second location at 3040 S. Delaware Ave. in Bay View.  Just a year later, the pandemic prompted restaurant owners across the city rethink their operational strategies.

In Little Cancun’s case, owner Veronica Cervera chose to shut down the establishment and focus her energy on the original Little Cancun location, which remains open at 7273 S. 27th St.

That said, there’s good news on the horizon for the location, which has been reimagined as a family friendly sports bar and which will host its official grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.

Fredy Munoz, an industry veteran who also works as the assistant manager at Bodega, 628 N. Water St., has partnered with Cervera to operate the Delaware location alongside her brother Tony. 

Guests who pay a visit to the reimagined Little Cancun Sports will find a bar equipped with numerous televisions for watching any number of athletic events. But they will also find a fully revamped dining area with renewed hardwood floors, high top tables, a pool table, an upgraded sound system and a state of the art projector which will be used to broadcast games on the front windows of the space. 

“We’ll also have DJs during games,” notes Munoz, who emphasizes that the venue will also be neighborhood friendly, closing its doors at midnight each night rather than staying open through bar time.

The venue will also be guest friendly, offering a menu which includes a variety of favorite Mexican dishes, along with finger foods, burgers, salads and vegetarian and vegan options. Bar offerings will include all the standards, plus frozen margaritas and beer towers.

Following the grand opening on Oct. 1, Little Cancun Sports will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
