In the past, I always tried to avoid spending more than $10 or $20 on sunglasses.

Don't get me wrong -- I like sunglasses. They are a cool and functional accessory. I appreciate the quality and style afforded by the most expensive pair I can afford.

But, I don't think they are a particularly good investment for me because I tend to lose them or smash them in a volleyball game or leave them in someone else's car.

About three years ago, I was at a function where I received a free pair of Oakleys as a gift. A year after that, I splurged and bought a nice pair of Ray-Bans that I really liked and wanted to keep in my possession for as long as possible.

I was on a pretty good roll. I'd alternate the pairs. I kept them close by and free of scratches. Things were going really well.

Then...

Six weeks ago, the dog chewed my Oakleys -- probably because it was too cold for me to take her for a walk. Last week, I misplaced my Ray-Bans and can't find them.

Now, I'm screwed. I drive east in the morning and west in the afternoon. I need new shades and don't know whether I should go back to some cheapies or splurge for a new, better pair.

That brings me to the point of this little blog. I want to know:

How long does the average consumer (or in this case, you) hang onto a pair of sunglasses?

How much do you like to spend for them?

Is there anything more frustrating than losing your favorite shades? What would upset you more? Losing a cell phone? A car or house key? A passport (I almost did that a few weeks ago, too). Your marbles?
