Remember Julio Machado?

It was hard not to think of him today. Machado was a hard-throwing reliever for the Brewers in the early 1990s who is known for two things: eating the meat of iguanas (hence, his nickname "Iguanaman) and for being convicted of murder after shooting a woman following a traffic accident in Venezuela.

Machado's name came to mind today amid the news that former big-league reliever Ugueth Urbina was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the attempted murder of five workers on his family's ranch in Venezuela.

Urbina, who pitched with the Expos, Red Sox, Rangers, Marlins, Tigers and Phillies, was accused of joining a group of men in attacking workers with machetes and pouring gas on them after an alleged theft.

Urbina, a two-time all-star, denied involvement in the attacks, saying he was sleeping.
