Milwaukee loves its hometown boy Rick Majerus, and he's always loved it back. And, always, in a big way.
Full of life, knowledge and basketball, Majerus, 64, was poised to take a legitimate Top 25 team in St. Louis deep into the tournament this season. He won't, though, as he's again battling health and heart issues.
I don't claim to know Majerus well, but have had a few conversations with him. A regular at the Milwaukee Public Market, I'd see him there with countless news publications, basketball tabloids and books sprawled over a table filled with treats and sweets from the market. I'd say hi, and he was always kind and welcoming.
On the air, as a basketball analyst or commentator, he's pure gold. Even his book, "My Life On a Napkin: Pillow Mints, Playground Dreams and Coaching the Runnin' Utes," is a fun, insightful read.

A life-long and passionate community leader and Milwaukeean, Jeff Sherman is a co-founder of OnMilwaukee.

He owns a condo in Downtown and lives in greater Milwaukee with his wife Stephanie, his son, Jake, and daughter Pierce. He's a political, music, sports and news junkie and thinks, for what it's worth, that all new movies should be released in theaters, on demand, online and on DVD simultaneously.
