In 1996, filmmaker Jim Muraco started working on a documentary about the life of Gov. Lee Sherman Dreyfus.
“For a year I interviewed him, his wife, son, grandkids, campaign managers and so on,” says Muraco.
About a decade ago, the documentary, called “The Man In the Red Vest,” aired on PBS and at a private reception. Yesterday, it screened once again, this time at Dreyfus’ funeral.
“I have never felt more honored,” says Muraco. “This past year, Dreyfus phoned me to say thanks for my help and goodbye. (He told me) that he was in bad health and his time on earth was limited.”
Muraco made a documentary called "Wisconsin Born & Bred, The Entertainers," highlighting celebrities like Al Jarreau, Jackie Mason, Daniel J. Travanti, Chris Farley and others. Currently, he is working on "It's My House," a documentary profiling unique homes throughout the state. Singer Pat McCurdy wrote and performed the title song.
“I will always be grateful to Gov. Dreyfus for jumpstarting my film career and for all of his golden advice,” says Muraco.
