As frigid temperatures approach, many closings are coming and being announced.
The Milwaukee Public Market, though, will be open for business on Monday, January 6, 2014.
Not only will the Market serve as a stop to warm up, sample vendor offerings but on Monday you can enjoy hot chocolate for $1 with proceeds going to Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative.
"The Market is a gathering place to the many loyal customers we serve each day," said Ron San Felippo, chair of the neighborhood's Business Improvement District (BID), which owns and operates the public market. "We will open at our usual time and offer a place for people to escape the weather, enjoy some food and hot chocolate and support an important Milwaukee cause."
The public market will monitor customer traffic throughout the day. Employee and customer safety will be a top priority in making any early closing decisions, according to Paul Schwartz, operations and communication manager for the market.
"We are not insensitive to safety concerns," said Schwartz. "But Wisconsinites tend to be more resilient to the cold than people realize and this is a chance to take a small bite out of Old Man Winter".
Monday’s general opening time is 1o a.m. Cedarburg Coffee and C. Adam’s Bakery open early at 7 a.m; Nehring’s Market and Margarita Paradise at 8 a.m.
One hour parking with any purchase is available in the market's parking lot. In addition, the Historic Third Ward will be operating a free shuttle service throughout the Third Ward from 6 a.m to 8 p.m. The shuttle bus will loop continuously around the Third Ward neighborhood. The shuttles will stop at several stops throughout the neighborhood and pick up anyone along the route who waves down the driver. See for route specifics, visit ThirdWardShuttleService.com.
