In 2021, Galy Montes and Nataly Andrade started Mercadera Market to provide a pop-up retail space for Latinx-owned businesses. In Spanish, “Mercadera” means “female merchant.”

This summer, Mercadera Market returns with four event dates split between City Lights Brewing and Zócalo Food Park.

City Lights Brewing, 2220 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., will host the market on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Zócalo Food Truck Park, 636 S. 6th St., will host two more markets on Sunday, June 26 and Sunday, July 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m..

During its inaugural year, Mercadera Market supported more than 30 female makers and this year will have 50+ vendors selling homemade products, art, clothing, food and more.

“Our markets are exclusively aimed to support female Latina entrepreneurs. Most of our vendors are just opening up their business and need exposure to the community, others do it as an extra income to overcome situations such as the pandemic and the economic impact, but mainly to provide support to the families in our community and to give many Latinas the confidence needed to grow personally,” says Montes.
