There's no Packer game today, and normally, a fall Sunday without a Packer game would be a time of sadness and boredom. Luckily, however, the Milwaukee Film Festival is here. So what movies should you tackle today? Here are the three movies you need to check out.

"Jaws"

You shouldn't need me to explain why you should check out "Jaws." It's only one of the greatest movies of all time, directed by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, featuring some of the greatest lines and moments of all time. If you somehow haven't seen Steven Spielberg's iconic industry-changing blockbuster, definitely nab yourself a ticket. And if you have seen it before, well, still nab yourself a ticket. And probably quick. A 35mm showing of an all-time classic? I think we're going to need a bigger theater.

"Jaws" screens today at 1:45 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre.

"Safety Last!"

Consider today an excellent lesson in film history at the Oriental Theatre. First, there's "Jaws," and then right after, there's "Safety Last!" The classic silent comedy features some all-time memorable sequences – the man dangling above a city from a clock? Yep, that's this movie – and don't let the silent tag scare you away. Silent comedians like Chaplin, Keaton and "Safety Last!" star Harold Lloyd were masters of physical comedy – kind of a lost art today – and their work transcends time, holding up remarkably well. Don't believe me? See for yourself – and hear the Oriental organ in rare in-movie action.

"Safety Last!" screens today at 5 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre.

"Gueros"

One of the new additions to this year's festival is the presentation of trailers before each showing. Some folks may not love the added advertisements, but so far, I think it's been an effective move. It gives audiences more cushion in between screenings to race between locales with a little less stress, and, most importantly, it's highlighting some movies that audiences may understandably look over when scanning the massive amount of options in the program book.

Case in point: "Gueros." This black-and-white Mexican coming-of-age story wasn't originally on my list for movies to check out, but after seeing the beautiful and charming trailer, I shifted some things around and made sure to make time for it. You should too.

"Gueros" screens today at 9:30 p.m. at the Fox Bay Cinema, as well as Monday, Oct. 5 at 10 p.m. at the Downer Theatre.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
