After more than a decade serving Cathedral Square, Mikey's has closed. The bar and restaurant, at 811 N. Jefferson St., announced it hosted its final day of business on Dec. 31.

"Regretfully, after eleven and a half amazing years serving food and cocktails, we have closed our doors," said owner Michael Polaski, in a release. "Thank you, Milwaukee, for all of your support over the years. We have enjoyed being a part of the East Town neighborhood and are so grateful to our co-workers, family and friends to share our wonderful memories of Mikey’s. Thank you to everyone who has become part of the Mikey’s family."

For the time being, the night club and restaurant is expected to be utilized by Mikey's as an event space for the rest of its lease.

As for after that? Between this announcement and Louise's closing next door back in August, there's suddenly a lot more question marks than destinations on the corner of Jefferson and Wells, across the street from Cathedral Square. As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
