The Art Museum's Burke Brise Soleil "wings" have become one of the beloved symbols of Milwaukee, so keeping them in tip-top shape is extremely important to everyone. Thus, they will undergo extensive maintenance this summer. 

According to Milwaukee Art Museum's Amanda Peterson, the wings will be in different positions during the process, from open to closed to in between. 

This is the first time in almost 10 years the Burke Brise Soleil received this extensive of a tune up that includes both mechanical and painting work.

"We had planned to due the tune-up next year in preparation for the 20th anniversary in 2021, but with the announcement of the DNC, a few key donors were kind enough to donate to make the museum shine for the national stage, so it happened more quickly than we expected, but we know it'll be worth it," says Peterson.

So if all goes well, the wings should be soaring across the lake again this September.
