Wisconsin loves its football – and no, not just the one with the helmets and brown egg-shaped ball and annoying people from Chicago. From the increasing popularity of Forward Madison to the incoming USL Championship team building a future Brew City spot, soccer's evolving into a winner in Wisconsin – and will only continue to grow here and beyond with the men's World Cup calling the U.S. home in about two years.

Whether you're a longtime footy fanatic or just now getting your foot on the soccer bandwagon, there are plenty of places around town to catch the latest matches while surrounded by good drinks, good views of all the games and good company cheering on their respective squads. Here are seven spots around Milwaukee that play with quality and deserve to be promoted in your sports bar standings.

Before the morning dew on your grass has begun drying, Creed's Foggy Dew is up and kicking these days for soccer Saturdays and Sundays. A sibling bar to the Newport found in St. Francis, Creed's Foggy Dew invites fans to drink and watch the latest soccer mornings, opening up early and showing the most important games on several of their neighborhood bar screens. For Sunday's Premier League finale, for instance, the Foggy Dew will open up at 9 a.m. complete with early-rising fans invited to bring their favorite footy foods for a potluck.

This Bay View bar may look small from the outside but it's one of the biggest soccer hotspots in the entire city, drawing packed crowds every Saturday and Sunday morning (and beyond) to drink, gather and cheer on their squads. So what league or team calls The Highbury home? Pretty much any and all of them! Man City and Arsenal (unsurprisingly considering its name and logo) have heavy fan followings regularly in attendance, but no matter what kit you're repping or league you're following, you're welcome at the Highbury. There's a place for you – and, most importantly, a screen with your game on, with all sorts of TVs scattered across the pub's walls.

And stay tuned to Moran's Facebook page for more events, whether it's themed pop-ups or block parties for the pitch's biggest global showcases.

If you're looking to catch the weekend's finest fixtures, wander your way over to the Nomad.

That's especially the case if you're a Tottenham Hotspur fan, as Red Lion Pub is where many Spurs supporters call home for matches. But even if you can't stand Spurs, there's a comfy stool or seat at Red Lion Pub – whether in the spacious main bar area or on its riverside rooftop patio – for you to watch the morning's games, cheer on your squad, sip on some suds and feast on some authentic English pub food.

And that includes Sunday's Premier League finale, serving up bottomless mimosas and $2 off Guinness starting at 10 a.m. with kickoff.

The tavern shows the latest Premier League games as well as other top soccer action – all served alongside popular taps from near and far as well as genuine British pub fare.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
