Sure, "Prost" was the old standby toast for a century or two, but that one really belongs to Germany. So OnMilwaukee decided in 2016 that as the Beer Capital of the Galaxy we needed our very own, very Milwaukee-ized version of "Cheers."

Thus, OnMilwaukee hosted a contest and received hundreds of clever suggestions, but a panel of judges – which included Dr. Garry Davis, UWM Professor and Chair of the Linguistics Department; Angela Damiani, CEO of Newaukee; Evan Christian, WAMI Award-winning musician; and Julio Maldanado, Partner at Maldanano & Morgan advertising agency – chose "414 Let's Have One More" as their top choice.

The winning toast was penned by Nick Berg, who later beefed-up his Brew City badassery by crushing the city's first and only fish fry eating contest and downing a 10-course, "super-duper-sized" Milwaukee meal for 414 Day.

"I reckoned (the toast) had to be somewhat short and easy to remember, something immediately identifiable and familiar to every Milwaukeean, and something that would evoke equal parts pride and mirth," Berg said following his triumph.

It's six years later, and OnMilwaukee is here to remind you that when you're out and about – enjoying more of your Milwaukee summer than you got to last year or the year before – remember our city's unofficially official toast: 414 let's have one more! Clink!
