The Admirals have had an exciting regular season. They set a team record with a 19-game win streak in January and February – the second longest in AHL history. They saw a large increase in attendance this year, averaging more than 6,000 fans per game including three 9,500-person sellouts. Even more exciting, the Calder Cup Playoffs kick off tomorrow where the Ads will face the Texas Stars.
The Ads will return to the UWM Panther Arena for Game 3 of the Central Division semifinals on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. Before then, we got to bring Zach L’Heureux and Kevin Wall, both forwards for the Milwaukee Admirals, in for a new episode of Milwaukee Uncut.
Hailing from Canada, L’Heureux has been on skates since he was just three years old. Around the age of 14, he knew he wanted to make a career out of playing hockey.
"It’s what I set my eyes on,” he said on the podcast.
After graduating high school, L’Heureux went right into the junior hockey league, skipping college entirely. He was a first-round pick by the Nashville Predators right after his senior year of high school in the 2021 NHL draft and played juniors for the Halifax Mooseheads before heading to Milwaukee this season.
Wall, on the other hand, isn’t from a hockey hotbed. From Rochester, New York, he grew up playing baseball and basketball in the footsteps of his parents. His first exposure to hockey was while attending a high school hockey game. He knew immediately it was the sport for him.
“Ever since I got on skates, I just fell in love with the game and it’s all I've ever wanted to do," he said.
Despite being some of the younger guys on the team, L’Heureux, 20, and Wall, 24, have experienced a great season both being key contributors on the team. We talk more about their success this season and what they’re doing to prepare for the playoffs this week in an effort to bring home the Calder Cup.
Then we get into an eventful fan Q&A that included the following topics:
- Wildest fight you’ve been in
- Why are hockey players so good at drinking beers and how many is considered impressive
- Where the Ads celebrate a W
- “Welcome to the party” moment when they went pro
- Who would win in a fight
- What teammates would you NOT let (and let) date your sister
- What do they like to do in Milwaukee
And more! Dive into it on Apple, Spotify, or online.
