For the 10th straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2016."
Blue's Egg
Once again, Blue's Egg takes the top spot for Milwaukee's best breakfast. The popular eatery has won four out of the last five years in this category, losing only once to Benji's in 2014.
Despite occasional long waits for seating, customers continue to flock to the scene for Blue's Egg's scrumptious breakfast meats, platters, omelettes and more. It's a classic yet innovative menu done incredibly well, and diners have definitely taken note.
Engine Company No. 3 and Mad Rooster took a distant second and third.
Runners up:
2. Engine Company No. 3
3. Mad Rooster
4. Original Pancake House
5. Cafe Benelux
Lori Fredrich's pick: Blue's Egg
I love a good breakfast. But I love breakfast at Blue’s Egg even better. And that’s because it views breakfast with the same respect as any other meal of the day. The dishes are thoughtful and delicious, and great service always seems to be top of mind. There’s a few newer kids on the block that are inching closer, but they’ve still got some work to do when it comes to competing at the level of Blue’s.
This year we also asked a variety of prominent Milwaukeeans to weigh in on their pick for specific categories. For this category, we consulted Colleen Henry, WISN broadcast journalist and foodie.
Henry's pick: Original Pancake House
It's all about the bacon. And the Original Pancake House has the best in the business. Double thick, crispy, chewy, sweet, salty. Did I say double thick? I eat it there. I get it to go. I use it in my favorite recipes: chopped in my BLT-aioli salad, medium rare to wrap my grilled prawns. Yup. The Original Pancake House. Bacon. Breakfast of champions.
