Shopping habits are changing, and as Milwaukee's retail landscape continues to evolve OnMilwaukee.com is pulling out the credit card for a full week of retail, shopping and commerce content. Stories about local stores, national retailers, online shopping and more. OnMilwaukee.com "Retail Week" will highlight shopping through a creative and diverse lens.

Members of Raise Up MKE, a local group with ties to a growing national movement of retail workers, is striking and rallying across Milwaukee today.

There is a rally today at 4 p.m. at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.

This follows similar actions in other cities from New York and Detroit to Chicago which seek to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and to demand union representation.

The fast food and retail workers, marching under slogans like "Can’t survive on 7.25," have already rallied at a McDonald’s and a Dollar Tree in the city.

Plans for additional rallies continue throughout the day. Raise Up MKE speaks from their own personal experience as low-wage workers and draws on research from organizations such as the Center for Economic and Policy Research, which finds that 60 percent of fast food workers are between the ages of 25 to 60 with families to support.
