The Milwaukee Mile and Indy Racing League have a press conference planned for Thursday afternoon at which they are expected to announce a return to tradition.
The IRL will return to State Fair Park the weekend following the Indianapolis 500, which is slated for May 27 next year. That would put the IRL race on June 3 at the Milwaukee Mile. Tony Kanaan was the winner at the ABC Supply / A.J. Foyt 225, which was held July 24.
The Milwaukee Mile, which holds the distinction of being the oldest operating motor speedway in the world, has hosted at least one auto race every year since 1903. The tradition of hosting the "race after the Indy 500" began in 1947 and has carried thorugh all but five years since.
Indy Racing League President Brian Barnhart is slated to attend the press conference along with Milwaukee Mile Chairman Craig Stoehr and President and CEO Andy Randall.
