MKE Band Camp is a new music series on OnMilwaukee, giving you the quick 411 on upcoming concerts in the 414.

Fact: Tuesdays are better with live music. Kevin Morby is playing an intimate show at the Colectivo Back Room tonight, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the music kicking off at 8 p.m.

Sadly, the show is sold out. If you are as heartbroken as I am, though, click here to check Morby’s site for upcoming tour dates. He’ll be back in Wisconsin in July.

Why you can’t miss it

Kevin Morby borrows from greats like Lou Reed, while maintaining a sound that is uniquely his own. His latest album, "City Music," is an ode to urban life that alternates between sleepy and upbeat tones. Songs on this album typically lull you into a trance then pull you back with an energetic payoff. Come to the Back Room tonight to get your own dose of city music!

Song starter pack

The Hit: "City Music"

The title track from Kevin Morby’s latest album  is simple, repetitive and inexplicably great. Make sure that you are patient enough to listen through until the drums kick in.

The B-Side Beauty: "Farewell Transmission"

He partners with Waxahatchee for this brilliant cover of the classic song from legendary alt-country band Ohia. As crazy as it is, I believe that this version outshines the original.

Can’t Wait to See it Live: "Parade"

It’s hard to think of a better song to use as an introduction to Kevin Morby’s catalog than this – and it sounds even better live.
