Here in Milwaukee, we've only been graced with the musical presence that is My Morning Jacket but two times since the release of the critically-acclaimed "Z" in 2005 -- one of which was at Summerfest, of all places, and both of which were nearly two years ago now.

We've heard bits and pieces of the forthcoming "Evil Urges" (June 10, ATO Records) on NPR's "Spring Music Preview," which is why we're thrilled that the band decided to include Milwaukee on its summer tour. Well, technically MMJ doesn't arrive at The Riverside Theater until fall -- Friday, Oct. 3, to be exact -- but the tour kicks off June 20 in New York.

In the meantime, you can see the Louisville five-piece on "Saturday Night Live" this Saturday, May 10.

Tickets are $31 (general admission) and go on sale Friday, May 16 at noon at The Riverside box office, on the Web at www.riversidetheater.org and www.tickets.com, or by calling (414) 286-3663 or (800) 511-1552.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
