Hunger Task Force brings the Piggly Wiggly Mobile Market to Burleigh Street near St. Joseph’s Hospital, 5000 W. Chambers St., over the next two weeks, beginning today.

According to Hunger Task Force, “The Mobile Market is a grocery store on wheels that travels throughout Milwaukee County to visit neighborhoods and communities that have limited access to fresh and healthy foods.

“Along with other staples, local grocer Piggly Wiggly stocks the Mobile Market with 40+ seasonal fruits and vegetables and several high demand meat and dairy items. The market does not sell canned items or processed foods.”

Fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, yogurt, eggs, meat, and more are available at the market at 25 percent less than normal retail prices.

The market is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, May 3-7 and May 10-14.

“Residents are invited to shop on board and receive 25% off all regular store pricing thanks to a grant in partnership with Hunger Task Force. Please come down and see what this great resource is all about,” said Ald. Khalif Rainey in a statement Monday.

“Your purchasing will inform what foods should be stocked in our district, and help leaders at St. Joseph’s, the Hunger Task Force and the City of Milwaukee eventually create a grocery store inside the hospital.”

The market accepts debit cards, credit cards and Quest EBT. Cash is not accepted. Shoppers eligible for FoodShare will be assisted by the Hunger Task Force FoodShare Outreach staff at the market.
