Taking mom to brunch – or being taken to brunch by your family –  on Mother’s Day is never a bad idea. And there are loads of nosh spots that would love to accommodate matriarchs of all kinds. But if you’re not feeling brunchy or want to try something different this year or are looking for a post-brunch activity, we found a few fun options.

Paint with mom from home

Splash Studios offers a creative mom’s day event that includes virtual painting with a live artist. Everything mom needs – canvas, paints, paint cup – are provided and picked up prior to Sunday. Add-ons like to-go cocktails, Charcuterie boards and gourmet popcorn are also available. Check it out here.

Go on a wine and chocolate picnic

Take mom to a special place to enjoy wine and chocolate from Indulgence Chocolatiers. Available at the Walker’s Point location only through May 8 at a special rate, these gift boxes include your choice of a red, rosé or sparkling bottle of wine and a 12 count of assorted truffles neatly packed in decorative gift boxes. Call (414) 223-0123 to order.

Take her for hotel bar cocktails

Blu 2X

Obviously, there are a zillion bars and lounges in Milwaukee that would gladly tap a beer for mom, but we have a couple suggestions to swank it up a notch. Take her for a drink in a hotel bar like Blu on the top floor of the Pfister Hotel; The Bar at the new Saint Kate arts hotel or Branded or The Yard (weather pending) at The Iron Horse Hotel.

Roam the zoo

All moms get into the Milwaukee County Zoo for free on Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Check in on A.J. the camel who had a baby calf on April 21. Here’s more info.

Cruise around on a Bublr bike

Depending on mom’s mood and agility, a Bublr bike ride might be the perfect way to enjoy the city and each other's company at the same time. Grab a bike downtown and ride the Lakeshore drive loop then back to the Third Ward for lunch before returning your bike. Make this happen by clicking here.

Hike it, you'll like it

There are so many gorgeous hiking spots in or near Milwaukee. We suggest Seven Bridges in Grant Park, Lion’s Den Gorge in Grafton or Havenwoods State Forest. Combine this with a picnic or present her with binoculars for bird watching to add on to the experience.
