#PSA: Father's Day is Sunday.
Sure, you could buy your dad another "Greatest Dad" coffee cup, a colorful necktie or an always fashionable trucker hat …
But why would you, when you can give him something better … like a bottle of locally made bourbon with a customized name that you made up yourself?
You can. Central Standard Craft Distillery Co-Founders Evan Hughes and Pat McQuillan created the first-ever fill-in-the-blank bourbon. And it’s pretty perfect for gifting.
"Pat and I are both dads," says Hughes, who is father to Henry (age 3.5) and Merridy (age 18 months). "What do we really want on Father’s Day? We’d love to hear how our kids feel about us. And, great bourbon? Well, that would be a nice bonus, as well."
The fill-in-the blank bottles will be filled with Central Standard’s Cabernet Finished Bourbon, a bourbon aged in California red wine barrels that opens with a waft of fruit and finishes with the flavor of warm caramel.
"Dads everywhere will enjoy this special run of our Cabernet Finished Bourbon," notes McQuillan who is dad to Keegan (age 3.5) and Winnie (age one). "Its smooth finish makes it the ideal Father’s Day gift, no matter if your dad is a spirits aficionado or a first-time bourbon drinker."
What can you say on your bottle of bourbon? There are endless possibilities:
- "The Big D.A.D." Bourbon
- "Whoops! I Crashed the Car" Bourbon
- "Thanks, Dad. I Turned Out Awesome!" Bourbon
- "Don’t Drink Until Sunday" Bourbon
- "Guess what? You’re a Grandpa" Bourbon
- "Mom, You’re All the Dad I Ever Needed" Bourbon
Or maybe just something simple like "The Best Gift Ever" Bourbon.
Despite all the Father’s Day fuss, there’s nobody telling you you have to buy it for dad. There’s always room for a "I Love You More Than" Bourbon or a "So Happy You Got Hitched" Bourbon. Truly, the sky is the limit (Yes, you could even put that on the label).
A limited run of Fill-in-the-Blank Bourbon bottles area available at Central Standard’s tasting room located at 613 S. 2nd St. They are $30 each (plus tax)… and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
National Bourbon Day
Maybe you’re not into customizable labels. That’s OK, too. You could opt, instead to bring your dad to the Central Standard tasting room on Friday, June 14, which also happens to be National Bourbon Day.
The distillery will be unveiling a brand new bourbon in celebration of the day (which also could make a good gift for dad)... plus, they’re rolling out some pretty fun promotions.
First, if you are among the first 14 people to with the CSD bar staff a "Happy National Bourbon Day," you’ll be gifted a free Manhattan. If you ring up a tab of $100 or more, you’ll get a special $14 Bourbon Day discount. (The catch? You have to mention it’s National Bourbon Day).
Also, you’ll want to be present at exactly 6:14 p.m., otherwise you’ll miss a very special free tasting of the Cabernet Finished Bourbon. Don’t say we didn’t tell you.
