Yesterday was the first day to buy 2010 overnight parking permits in the City of Milwaukee. Cecilia Gilbert, permits and communications manager at the Department of Public Works said 99 permits were sold on Sunday night alone.

Instead of the quarterly night permits, the 2010 night parking permits are sold on a four-month basis for $20 (a $2.25 fee is added online).

Annual permits continue to be sold for the new fee of $55 per year, if purchased by April 19, 2010. This fee increase (up from $44) is the first to be implemented since the inception of the parking permit program in 1950.

Purchasing an annual permit saves you $5.

In addition to online, night parking permits can be purchased at Milwaukee Police Districts 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 at automated payment centers.

In 2008, 180,857 night parking permits were sold.
