If you or anyone you know have children from the ages of 3 to 5, now is the time to enroll them in school.
Kindergarten enrollment season kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Milwaukee Public Schools’ first kindergarten fair of the year.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon at South Division High School, 1515 W. Lapham Blvd.
What you need to know
According to the district’s news release, children who are enrolled during this period, which runs from Feb. 1 to March. 17, have a better chance of being placed in their family’s first-choice school.
The children must be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten.
Enrollment applications can be completed at the fair with the help of district staff, online or complete at the MPS Enrollment Center, 5225 W. Vliet St.
Enrollment papers for students in other grades will also be accepted at the fair.
Other things to know
Families who attend the event will have the opportunity to learn about schools that specialize in Montessori, International Baccalaureate and language immersion.
The district also has schools that focus on science and math, bilingual education, special education, the arts and music, the Great Lakes and agriculture.
The event will offer activities for children and door prizes like movie tickets, museum passes and a balance bike donated by Milwaukee Bike Fed.
The Milwaukee Health Department will offer immunizations needed for school.
Interpreters will be available.
A second Kindergarten Enrollment Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 at North Division High School, 1011 W. North Ave.
