Municipal ID cards are meant to make it easier for people to have proof they are residents of the city.
They can be used to get medical care, open bank accounts and get library cards.
It only costs $10 to get your municipal ID card.
How to get a card
To get a municipal ID, you must be at least 14 years (minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian), submit a completed application and include proof of identity and proof of residency, in addition to the $10 payment.
Applications must be submitted in person at the City Clerk’s License Division office in Room 105 at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St. Applications are available in English, Spanish and Hmong.
What else you need to know
The municipal IDs cannot be used to vote in local or national elections.
This is different from a Real ID, which is a form of identification that meets federal standards for accessing federal facilities and boarding domestic flights.
