Beer news today includes a name for two new beer gardens coming this spring, and a new brewery headed to West Allis.
When Nick and April Marking handed over the reins of The Brass Tap in Greenfield last week, Nick said that the duo would be opening a pair of beer gardens in spring.
Today, in a Facebook post, he shared the name – The Tap Yard – and logo, as well as the locations.
The venues will be in Waukesha at The Shoppes at Fox River, 1160 W. Sunset Dr., and near Glendale, said Marking, who added, that they, “will be sharing more as soon as more aspects are done.”
The markings opened the Milwaukee-area Brass Tap franchise at 7808 W. Layton Ave., in 2015 and last year operated a beer garden at the nearby 84South shopping center.
They sold the Brass Tap to Andy Grossman and Kat Thiede in December.
The Explorium Brewpub in Greendale head brewer will open Ope! Brewing in a former industrial building at 6751 W. National Ave. along with John Onopa and The Explorium cellarman Adam Anders.
According to a post in the Journal Sentinel, they plan to run 16 tap lines in the tasting room and expect to brew a wide range of beers, including IPAs and other ales, lagers, sours and more. They also plan to can beer, self-distribute and run a barrel program.
They hope to close on the 12,650-square-foot building by the end of the month and install a 15-barrel brew system.
There will also be a patio with volleyball courts, cornhole, bocce, fire pits and room for multiple food trucks.
Ciske tells me that they expect to Ope!(n) in autumn.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
