The Green Bay Packers are playing confident football right now, and that is a very good thing.
Last Thursday, the team went into a short week for a prime time matchup with the Washington Commanders, and looked dominant from the jump. The Packers held Washington to just 11 yards of offense in the first quarter, and under 50 yards of total offense by halftime. Jordan Love threw for 292 yards with two touchdown passes, and Green Bay looked dominant from start to finish over a team that will likely do very well in the NFC East this year.
The only downside to the night was losing wide receiver Jayden Reed to a broken collarbone, which he suffered on a touchdown pass that was voided by a penalty call. It’s the second straight decisive win for the Packers, and one that already has national TV pundits calling them the best team in the NFL. Now with 10 days between games, they’ll head to Cleveland for their first road test of the season against a Browns team that is looking to put the pieces together.
The Big Story
With Deshaun Watson sidelined due to an achilles injury, the Browns are led by Joe Flacco at quarterback, the second oldest starting QB in the league behind some guy named Aaron in Pittsburgh. In the backfield, Cleveland is looking to rookie running back Dylan Sampson to be one of the building blocks of the team going forward, and they also have a solid wideout in Jerry Jeudy that can be a thorn in the side of defenses all day. That being said, the offense is a bit of a hodgepodge, and Cleveland is in the process of getting all of those pieces to work together properly. With one of the best defenses in the league coming to town on Sunday, it could be a long day for Browns fans, and let’s hope so.
Where to watch the Packers vs. Browns
Sunday’s game kicks off at 12 p.m. Central. You can watch it on Fox locally. Of course, you can also belly up at any of Milwaukee’s many sports bars to watch the game, and if you’re out of town, you’re in luck; there’s a Packers bar in every state (and beyond.)
Elsewhere in the NFC North
The Detroit Lions head to Baltimore to take on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens on Monday Night Football, while the Vikings will take on a Cincinnati Bengals team that already squeaked past the Browns in week one of the season. The Bears will welcome the Dallas Cowboys in a game that will likely look like nobody wants to actually win. Enjoy it as the Sunday afternoon Game of the Week.
As always, Go Pack Go!
