“Bar Month” at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we’re serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, bartender profiles, drink recipes and even a little Brew City bar history. Cheers!
I'd heard a rumor that Palm Tavern, 2989 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., was planning on going completely smoke-free starting March 16, the day after St. Patrick's Day (which will be celebrated in Ireland on March 15 this year to avoid a conflict with Holy Monday).
The one last "hurrah" made sense to me, but I just called to confirm and learned that owners Bruno Johnson and Adrian Pierluissi have pushed up the snuff date to Tuesday, March 4.
As the date nears, I'll add to add Palm Tavern to this list of seven other Milwaukee-area bars that are either completely or partially (one floor, or on certain days of the week) smoke-free.
I'll keep the list updated as I hear of others, as well.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
