Trey Anastasio, frontman and guitarist for jamband Phish, said during a virtual concert last night that he has worn a Milwaukee Home T-shirt to bed every night for 6 years and (jokingly?) that he has never washed it. He also praised the beautiful Pabst Theater during the onstage remarks.
Anastasio is halfway through an eight-week virtual residency that takes place every Friday evening live from New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre from October 9 through November 27. The concerts are available for free exclusiverly on Twitch.
Some reported Milwaukee-based talent buyer and entertainment director Jason Burczyk gave the shirt to Anastasio (although Burczyk was unreachable via text and did not confirm). Jim Draeger, a longtime fan who worked at the Pabst Theater when Trey Anastasio Band played a concert there in February of 2014, saw the story on social media and said he was the one who gave the shirt to Anastasio.
"I worked the Pabst that night catering supper for the band with Kevin (Sloan) who introduced me to Trey. I gave him a Milwaukee Home T-shirt ... Trey was very appreciative and said I didn’t have to do that. I explained that I had to because I saw 23 shows in a row for free during the summer ‘03 tour. He also wore the shirt for the second set that night," writes Draeger.
MilwaukeeHome is a popular brand created by Melissa Thornton.
"We love Milwaukee," Anastasio says in the video.
