At 11:45 this morning fire broke out on the roof of The Pfister Hotel. According to general manager Tim Smith, there was a contractor working on the elevators and somehow a piece of equipment started the fire.
"We don’t know a lot quite yet, the fire fighters are still on the roof," says Smith.
The fire was contained and extinguished quickly, according to Smith, and no internal damage was done to the building.
The hotel evacuated guests and staff to the 411 Building across the street.
"The bulk to of the people who were evacuated were having lunch in the cafe or at Mason (Street Grill)," says Smith. "Luckily, within 15 minutes everyone was back inside The Pfister and safe."
