The ESPN The Magazine Body Issue is famous for its portraits of partially nude athletes. They made a distinctive choice for one of its covers this year, however, with former Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder.
Fielder, who is currently on the disabled list for the Texas Rangers, is listed at 5-feet, 11-inches and 275 pounds, and explained why he wanted to appear partially nude in the issue.
"You don't have to look like an Under Armour mannequin to be an athlete," he told espn.com. "A lot of people probably think I'm not athletic or don't even try to work out or whatever, but I do. Just because you're big doesn't mean you can't be an athlete. And just because you work out doesn't mean you're going to have a 12-pack. I work out to make sure I can do my job to the best of my ability. Other than that, I'm not going up there trying to be a fitness model."
Fielder, who was originally drafted by the Brewers in 2002, played in Milwaukee from 2005 through 2011 and appeared in three All-Star games.
