Your social life may be the first thing to go after you have kids. A good babysitter is hard to find, and time is usually even more elusive. You want to get out more, and you always mean to, but it never happens.
{INSERT_RELATED}Jay Hollis, owner of the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse, 6823 W. North Ave. in Wauwatosa, is out to help couples with young children that would love to go out, but for whatever reason can't find the time.
As of February 11, Monday evening is now "Parents with Toddlers Night." From now on, every Monday night 7 p.m. show is strictly for parents with toddlers (two years of age or younger).
"To my knowledge, this hasn't been done in town," said Hollis.
"I got the idea from several of our customers who told me that they couldn't or wouldn't get a sitter for their young ones," he continued. "The parents wanted to be able to view our movies and yet not disturb any of our other patrons."
No special films are being shown on Monday nights. It's whatever is currently on the schedule (Robert Altman's "Gosford Park" at the moment).
Thus far, the turnout hasn't been bad, especially when you consider that Hollis hasn't done any advertising except for emails. "I was pleasantly surprised at the turn out."
Most of the little ones sleep right through the film, and all of the feedback has been positive, ranging from "It's about time someone did this" to "Thank you so much."
"Our demographics fit this niche," Hollis added. "The average age of our patrons is 25-45 years old. Thus, quite a lot of these folks have babies and want to get out. On top of that, sometimes the wee ones make a little noise, and this way no one cares."
