After discontinuing one of their more popular promotions, the Kansas City Royals are looking to the Brewers for inspiration.

Royals officials told Kansas City Star columnist Jeffrey Flanagan (a Wisconsin native) that the team will transfer their JumboTron hot dog races to live action this year, with team employees squaring off dressed as ketchup, mustard and relish.

Royals senior director of marketing Kim Hillix Burgess told Flanagan that the "live" races won't be held every night.

"It'll be a game-time decision," she said. "You'll have to show up to know when we let the dogs out."

The condiment news came after the Royals announced the end of a popular "dozen for a dozen" promotion, in which ticketholders could get a dozen free Krispy Kreme donuts after games in which the Royals collected 12 or more hits -- which didn't happen often enough considering the team's 62-100 record.
