Sabrosa Cafe & Gallery has closed its doors at 3216 S. Howell Ave. in the Bay View neighborhood.

It has been our privilege and delight to serve you for the past eight years. With our hearts full of memories, it is time to say thank you one last time and good bye. Please continue to support your favorite locally-owned small businesses who need you now more than ever.

Chef Francisco Sanchez and partner and musician Ruben Piirainen opened the cozy cafe in July of 2017, transforming a former commercial kitchen rental space into a bright, welcoming eatery.
Merging their appreciation for both food and art, they poured their personalities and passion into the restaurant, offering a combination of traditional and Mexican-inflected breakfast and brunch dishes like corned beef chilaquiles, omelettes, breakfast burritos, ribeye hash and countless variations of pancakes and other sweet treats.
The restaurant also offered a seasonal fish fry and an ingenious twist on the hot ham and roll tradition: a hot meat market featuring ham, barbacoa and carnitas on Sundays.
And while the community will certainly miss the bright environs and eclectic dishes at Sabrosa, the restaurant is likely to be remembered most for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that was always filled with both music and art.
Lori is an avid cook whose accrual of condiments and spices is rivaled only by her cookbook collection. Her passion for the culinary industry was birthed while balancing A&W root beer mugs as a teenage carhop, fed by insatiable curiosity and fueled by the people whose stories entwine with each and every dish. She’s had the privilege of chronicling these tales via numerous media, including OnMilwaukee and in her book “Milwaukee Food.” Her work has garnered journalism awards from entities including the Milwaukee Press Club. In 2024, Lori was honored with a "Top 20 Women in Hospitality to Watch" award by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association.
When she’s not eating, photographing food, writing or recording the FoodCrush podcast, you’ll find Lori seeking out adventures with her husband Paul, traveling, cooking, reading, learning, snuggling with her cats and looking for ways to make a difference.
