’Tis Dining Month, the tastiest time of year! This means we’re dishing up fun and fascinating food content throughout October. Dig in, Milwaukee!

The SafeHouse turned 55 this week and has myriad celebratory offerings through Oct. 9.

To ring in five-and-a-half decades of clandestine cuisine and cocktails, the James Bond-themed spot also commissioned artist Fred Kaems to paint a spy-themed mural on the 42-foot wall facing Front Street.

"They were looking for something that nods to their spy and espionage theme, but didn’t say SafeHouse (because the location is a secret)," says Kaems. "The right section of the mural is a riff on the the opening sequence of all the Bond movies. The left section is several panels like a comic book that depicts a hand off of a briefcase."

Most of the mural is painted in gray tones with pops of brighter colors.

"This is more subdued than my usual pallette, but it was fun to work in a subdued palette," says Kaems. "They wanted a little red included since that is one of their colors. I also included a little dull yellow for the Hoan Bridge  and to give it a more Milwaukee feel."
