Days after the debut of his Giannis mural in Downtown Milwaukee, Mauricio Ramirez announced he's recreating a mural of Selena Quintanilla on the building at the corner of South 5th and West Pierce Streets in Walker's Point.

"I want to go colorful, and I want to make sure that it's bold, it's loud, and people are going to be proud of it," Ramirez orginally told WISN Channel 12.

Quintanilla, who went by "Selena" professionally, was an American singer, model, actress and fashion designer who was murdered by a fan / former manager in 1995. She was 23.

The new six-story mural, which will be visible from I-94, should be completed by the end of summer. Other Milwaukee artists, including students from Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, will assist with this project.

Ramirez painted his first mural of Selena in 2017 on a building in Walker's Point that has since been demolished.

"Selena needed to live on," he said. "She had such a big impact on Milwaukee's Latino community."
