Local seniors will have the opportunity to receive a pack of farmers market vouchers worth $25 on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The vouchers, which are available in limited quantity for qualifying seniors who have not yet received them, will be distributed to eligible seniors at the Hunger Task Force Dock, 201 S. Hawley Ct., from 9 a.m to 11 a.m.

The vouchers are part of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), a program which provides $25 in vouchers to purchase fresh produce at area farmers markets. Vouchers are available to seniors age 60 or older (or Native American seniors age 55 or older) with a monthly income of less than $1,926. Vouchers expire on October 31, 2019.

All seniors are encouraged to bring a friend who also has not received their summer farmer’s market vouchers. Tuesday’s distribution will be the last opportunity for seniors to receive the vouchers this season.

In addition to the distribution of remaining vouchers, all qualifying seniors who attend will receive a free box of government commodity foods, including cereal, canned vegetables and fresh milk.
