All day, I looked forward to watching Game 1 of the World Series between Colorado and Boston.
I kept busy long enough to miss most of the pre-game stuff and when the game finally started on Fox, I kept hearing this annoying, high-pitched sound and it was driving me crazy.
No, it was not Tim McCarver.
It sounded more like a leaf blower. At first, I thought there was something wrong with my TV. But it disappeared when I muted the volume. I asked a buddy who was watching the series at his house. He was hearing it, too.
So, I fired an instant message to my friend and former colleague, Tom Haudricourt, who was covering the game for the Journal Sentinel.
"I'm hearing a high-pitched noise that sounds like a leaf blower," I said. "What the hell is it?"
Tom knew right away.
"That would be the DirecTV blimp," he said. "It's right over the press box."
Fortunately, the thing moved away from the broadcast booth shortly after our chat. Now, if we could only do something about that rain.
