{image1} In mid-July, Ehsan Edalatpour, owner of Wauwatosa's Shiraz Restaurant, purchased Jasmine's Middle Eastern Foods at 2864 N. Oakland Ave. in hopes of giving East Siders a taste of the Persian delights his restaurant serves up.

Now called Shiraz Persian Foods and Spices, the cozy little store just south of Locust Street offers a fresh food deli and a grocery section, featuring a combination of Middle Eastern and Persian dry foods, canned foods and spices.

The deli, which Edalatpour hopes to have up and running by next week, will feature many of the entrees you'd find at his restaurant, including spinach pies and various kabobs. For now, the deli food will be take-out only, but Edalatpour says he'd like to set up tables for eating outside, if possible.

Shiraz will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The phone number is (414) 961-1185.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
