Long-time Milwaukee bar owner Slim McGinn has sold his popular Walker's Point establishment to former Brown Bottle Pub manager Linda Sackett.

Slim's, 338 S. 1st St., had been in business for 16 years. McGinn says he will continue business at his Brookfield location, 14735 W. Lisbon Rd.

Sackett will add a new name and menu, and do an official reopening in March.  For now, though, Slim's is still open and operating through the transition.

McGinn, on Friday, sent this message to OnMilwaukee.com:

"Sixteen years ago I was one of the only pub-restaurants in the Fifth Ward, long before the area even had a name. Now there are so many options for dining and entertainment there. Fortunately, there is also a continual influx of residents and new construction continues all around. It is a very viable and vibrant area that is only going to get bigger.

"I've been very hands-on operationally and have put much time and energy into developing the businesses. Selling McGinn's on Bluemound four years ago and now Slim's in Milwaukee will give me back some time so I can get back to the kitchen and back to face-to-face time with customers. That is the main reason people like me open in the first place and I have really missed those aspects in the last few years.

"There is more enhancing and some tweaking we want to do at the Brookfield location. That area has been tremendous for us -- so many loyal customers from the neighborhood, great employees and many long-time customers from Slim's in Milwaukee live out in the western suburbs and repeatedly tell me they appreciate having a Slim's closer to home.

"In addition to the Brookfield location, we have a successful festival business operating at Wisconsin State Fair and Milwaukee Irish Fest. These are great opportunities to introduce our brand to large groups of people who may have never been to our pubs. Anyone in the festival business knows it is a short but intense window to connect with customers. We also run Pub Tours to Ireland every 18 months or so that have become a favorite for my wife and me. We try to hit different locations each time and we've had several repeat customers for the trips. "
