It's been a few months since 88Nine (88.9) Radio Milwaukee jumped the airwaves -- it launched on February 23, 2007. The non-commercial station was long-awaited by many Milwaukee music fans who had long since given up on the radio, other then maybe NPR or WMSE.
The goal of 88.9 is to play eclectic, good music with intelligent DJs who understand the tastes of Milwaukee's music-minded folks and aren't shackled to a set list. Has the station lived up to its intention?
Now that you've had time to listen, what do you think about this station? Did they deliver? Were they able to maintain what they originally dished out? In short, is it a 'yay' or a 'nay' for 88.9?
Yay. I love this station. They play a lot of interesting music that's all over the board and it feels very spontaneous. I think the DJs are much less annoying then most radio personalities, and their comments are usually pretty smart. This station gives me faith in the radio again.
Nay. Radio Milwaukee started out spontaneous, but now it sounds like they have a set list. Plus, they promised to play a lot of local music, but it seems like that too has diminished over the past month or so. I started out very excited about Radio Milwaukee, but it's just not producing what it promised.
