For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."

On Monday, I have an article about some of the new menus being unveiled lately (or soon) at restaurants around town. While you anticipate that delicious news, here are some tidbits to get your mouth watering...

Stack'd Burger Bar in Walker's Point has a range of new specials this month, all of which can be juiced up with a pumpkin shake (which itself can get some octane with the addition of Great Lakes Distillery's Roaring Dan's rum).

There's an au poivre bistro steak sandwich on a toasted baguette that's topped with arugula, Dijon mustard and bleu cheese and a jerk duck sandwich with pulled jerk duck and jicama slaw on a toasted roll.

The buffalo burger is beef – the name refers to the sauce, not the meat – from Tallgrass with a Srircacha cilantro wing sauce and bleu cheese ranch atop a pretzel bun. Finally, a gluten-free hummus stack – served with pita triangles – features Stack'd's house-made white bean nummus with roasted red pepper and thyme oil.

Meanwhile, just about straight west, down in the Valley, Dream Dance Steak in the Potawatomi Bingo Casino, has another Sommelier Showdown slated for Tuesday, Oct. 18 with WineVentures' Jaclyn Stuart and Rootstock Wine Company's Brendan Moore, founder of Rootstock Wine Company.

Each of these certified sommeliers will pair a specially selected wine with four of the five courses prepared by Chef Matt Baier.

Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and costs $75 per person, not including a gratuity. Make reservations here.
