While we in Milwaukee think frozen custard is our thing – which is understandable since Wisconsin is the frozen custard capital of the world – Archie Kohr, the inventor of what we think of today as frozen custard, debuted his eggy treat on the boardwalk at Coney Island in 1919.

Thus, perhaps, the Summer Shandwich – a marriage of Wisconsin-brewed Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy and some Brooklyn-made Tipsy Scoop frozen custard – is perfectly appropriate (though I still would argue Gilles’, Kopp’s or Leon’s should’ve been invited to the party).

In honor of National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, Aug. 2, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandwich will be available at Tipsy Scoop’s locations nationwide as well as online in six-packs from the Tipsy Scoop online store.

The sandwich is made with frozen custard infused with Summer Shandy, with up to 4.2 percent ABV, so these ain’t for the kiddos.

This thing is Wisconsin to the max, with inclusions like a ripple of cheese fudge, brandied cherries and kringle through the custard, and cookies made of sweet and savory cornbread.

The treats will hit the market on July 31 with six-packs running $49 online including shipping and handling.

Order online and find Tipsy Scoop bricks and mortar (cone and cup?) locations here.
