Twin Cities-based Sun Country Airlines is coming to Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport, with nonstop flights to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Fort Myers, Florida, and Cancun, Mexico, beginning Aug. 26.

The announcement is part of a larger expansion for the airline, which is adding nine airports and 18 nonstop routes, bringing it to a total of 93 routes at 69 airports in the U.S., Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

The Cancun route will be the only nonstop flights to the destination from Milwaukee.

“MKE is excited to welcome Sun Country, giving our passengers new options to five nonstop destinations from Milwaukee,” said MKE Airport Director Brian Dranzik at a press conference Tuesday morning.

“Sun Country’s low fares and great service will be popular for many travelers in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.”

Sun Country offers introductory fares starting at $39 one-way.

The new routes are on sale now at suncountry.com and Sun Country Rewards members who book a flight on one of the new routes before 11:59 p.m. CT on Monday, May 3, will get two points per dollar on their bookings.

“We know folks are excited to resume traveling, and we’re happy to  be able to offer them the opportunity to travel to these destinations with us,” said Sun Country Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney.

“We’re proud to bring our brand of convenient, affordable travel to Milwaukee. We’re looking forward to welcoming local residents onboard, so they can enjoy the vacations they’ve been dreaming about.”

Last week, JetBlue announced more Milwaukee routes and in February, Spirit announced that it was adding a trio of routes to MKE, too. American Airlines also recently announced it was restarting its nonstop flights to Miami from Milwaukee.
