The urban fish and vegetable farm Sweet Water Organics is hosting it's first workshop of the year and if you are into the idea of urban farming you should check it out.
Sweet Water is right down the road from my house and I have a couple friends who volunteer there. It has been drawing all kinds of attention to Milwaukee for their progressive approach to cultivating food in urban environments through aquaponics-- a combination of fish cultivation and water-based farming that work in unison. Having eaten some of the fish and greens grown there I can tell you that it's not only sustainable but delicious.
If you've read about it in The New York Times or seen it featured on NBC Nightly News then you may have gotten a taste of what they are doing over there, but you can learn how to make aquaponics work for you at their Winter Workshop which runs Friday through Sunday at Sweet Water's converted Bay View warehouse, 2151 S. Robinson Ave.
Information about the workshop is available at the web site and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with current leaders in the field of aquaponics and learn how to build a miniature aquaponic system alongside Sweet Water staff.
