This afternoon, the Milwaukee Public Museum invited media to tour the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin construction site, providing exclusive access to the structure's interior.
The museum is currently under construction at 6th and McKinley near the Deer District and is projected to open in 2027.
Milwaukee Public Museum President & CEO Dr. Ellen Censky and Kurt Theune, Vice President and General Manager of Mortenson, led the tour.
Most notable at this point is the "light well" – an open space rising 82 feet from the ground to the skylight above.
Censky said the exhibits have been finalized and objects chosen. She stressed that even if an MPM favorite isn't included in an exhibit, there will be a three-story display to showcase them. She disclosed that Samson and Granny would make the move, as will the snake button.
"But we're not telling where it is," says Censky. "You're gonna have to find it."
When installation is complete this fall, 690 precast pieces will have been attached to the building structure, with the heaviest weighing more than 50,000 pounds and placed at the northeast corner of the Museum.
