Two of Milwaukee's best power pop outfits team up to launch their new CDs this week. Trolley and Heathrow play a CD release party gig Sat., June 21 at 10 p.m. at the Cactus Club, 2496 S. Wentworth Ave., in Bay View.

The bands will alternate sets, each performing a pair of 30-minute sets, so everyone will get a chance to see both bands.

Trolley released a flurry of discs about four years ago but has remained fairly quiet until now, with the release of "Last Chance Dance" on Easter Records. Recorded at home, the disc was then mixed by Mike Zirkel, who is now back at Madison's Smart Studios -- owned by the guys from Garbage -- after a stint in Chicago.

The disc has a baker's dozen melodic guitar pop songs fueled by layered harmonies and at times almost psychelic textures.

Meanwhile, Heathrow, another poppy Milwaukee quartet releases its 10-song disc, "The Listening Class," produced by Zirkel at Smart Studios. Again, Beatlesque harmonies and classic Britpop melodies reign supreme.

Farwell Music's one-two punch -- Luke and Ken -- will spin records between sets to keep the party swinging.

Admission to the gig is $5. Or you can pay $10 for admission and one CD; $15 for admission and both CDs. That's just about the deal of the year!

The bands are also doing a blitz all week, including appearances on WMSE radio, an the Exclusive Co. performance, 1669 N. Farwell Ave, Saturday at 2 p.m. At 5 p.m. Saturday, various members of the bands will host a listening party at Farwell Music, 2218 N. Farwell Ave. Stop by for a chance for discounted tickets for the show that night and to buy the new cds!
