Attention all TWD fans: Glenn is alive! I repeat, Glenn is alive!
This shocking news may come as a complete surprise to some, but an inexplicable moment of elation for others. Remember the other week, after the "Thank You" episode when I said that I could have sworn I saw something wiggle under the dumpster after being engulfed by walkers? Well, I now know that my eyes haven’t failed me and that I’m not absolutely crazy.
After Nicholas landed on Glenn, the walkers went for the former's guts, leaving Glenn space to wiggle from under him and under the dumpster. He waited out the herd for a while for them to clear out and eventually found that his flare gun that was supposed to let the group know that he’s alive was broken to pieces. Glenn, exhausted physically and emotionally, hears a quick "Heads up!" from above, only to see Enid toss him a bottle of water from the rooftop overlooking the alley.
Enid is the mysterious loner from the episode "JSS" who went missing after the Wolves attacked the town of Alexandria. After being Glenn’s lifesaver, Enid tried to run away from Glenn to be on her own once again. Glenn, the sweet, wholesome man that he is, wouldn’t leave without Enid and vowed to bring her back home.
Meanwhile in Alexandria, Rick and Carol confront Morgan about letting those Wolves go. Morgan asks Rick if he thinks that Morgan doesn’t belong at Alexandria, and Rick responds with, "Making it now, do you really think you can do that without getting blood on your hands?"
What a profound statement, don’t you think? Because of Morgan’s decision to save a couple of lives, Rick could have easily died. But, with Morgan’s promise to never take a life, even murderers who burn people alive are worth saving – not to mention, he has one of the wolves holed up in one of the basements in the complex. Rick’s question is a very realistic one that Morgan needs to ask himself; in a world where the dead roam and the living kill others to get ahead, is it possible to truly survive?
In other news, Spencer, the mayor’s son, makes a stupid move to climb over the fence in order to lead the walkers away. After his plan went awry, Rick and other members were forced to save Spencer from his stupidity and get him back behind the walls. Deanna tries to thank Rick for saving her son, but Rick isn’t too quick to accept her gratitude. He said that he could’ve used Spencer’s demise to actually make some progress with getting rid of the walkers, but Deanna immediately downplays his rebuttal. In her eyes, Rick saved her son; as a result, he’s more humane than he once thought he was.
After a long trek back to Alexandria, Glenn and Enid find that too many walkers are surrounding the walls for them to safely get inside. Thank God Enid picked up that bunch of green balloons and tied them to her backpack because without them, no one would’ve known that Glenn and Enid were alive. As soon as everyone sees the balloons, the watchtower of Alexandria comes crashing down, pulling down the protective fences. Of course it wouldn’t be an adequate ending without impending doom. After fighting so hard to keep Alexandria in tact, are everyone’s efforts now futile?
We’ll see on next week’s winter finale!
