{image1}Urban Anthropology Inc., a non-profit organization of cultural anthropologists and other community activists, studies cultural groups in Milwaukee, and beginning this May, these local experts will offer community tours.
UA will launch two new tours: one on African-American culture and one on the "Old South Side," featuring Latinos and Poles. In the near future, the group plans to add tours of the Hmong community, Germans, Urban Indians, French, Irish and Yankees.
The tours are unique because they include cultural meals, transportation, a full packet of information on each group including recipes, an original video and little-known information that emerged from their studies.
The guides are anthropologists or experts who have studied cultural groups for many years and have been working on these tours for more than two years.
Each tour will run for approximately two hours every other week -- only during the warm six months.
Urban Anthropology hopes to offer more tours next year, including "The Varieties of Latino Experience" and "Big Little Populations," both based on the anthropologists' studies of small ethnic populations in the area that have made big impacts.
