Although Veterans Day is this Saturday, Nov. 11, the annual Veterans Day Parade already stepped off last weekend. But, don’t worry if you missed it, because there are still ways you can mark this day, on which we appreciate those who have served in the military.

Here are five ways to observe Veterans Day in the Milwaukee area...

Veterans Day 5K & 10K

The Veterans Day 5K and 10K events take place Saturday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr. The event, part of the Wisconsin Chilly Willy Run Series, wends its way through Veterans Park on the lakefront. After the race, enjoy a gourmet hot chocolate bar. All money donated as part of registration for this race will be donated, via Silver Circle Foundation, to Operation Final Home, which builds custom, mortgage-free homes for America’s veterans and their families. West Allis Veterans Day Ceremony

Head over to the West Allis Police Department’s Satelite Station at Veterans Memorial Park, 6900 W. National Ave., on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. for a community observance of Veterans Day, hosted by Dale Slowik, Commander of Tanner-Paull Post 120. There will be Presentation of Colors by the West Allis Police Department Honor Guard; singing of the national anthem; and special guest speakers including Mayor Dan Devine, Judge Paul Murphy and local veterans. Harley-Davidson Museum’s Veterans Day Appreciation Weekend

From Friday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 12, the Harley-Davidson Museum, 400 W. Canal St, honors Veterans Day by offering all active military, veterans and their families free museum admission and a free meal (up to $12.95 value) with a beverage purchase at MOTOR Bar & Restaurant. Waukesha Veterans Day Ceremony

Waukesha Allied Veterans host a solemn tribute to veterans Saturday, Nov. 11, 10:30-11 a.m., at Veterans Park, 710 N. West Ave., in Waukesha. Community members will gather to express gratitude to those who have served. For more information visit waukesha-wi.gov/residents/veterans-day-ceremony.php.

7th Annual Reclaim Armistice Day

This event at Milwaukee City Hall, 200 E. Wells St., Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6:45 p.m. – sponsored by Milwaukee Veterans For Peace Chapter 102 and a coalition of peace and justice organizations – aims to promote peace on what is also called Armistice Day, which celebrates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, ending the conflict on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at 11 in the morning ... the so-called, "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918. Speakers will include Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODEPINK, and Mark Denning, educator in Natiive American culture.
