Just when you thought that kringle couldn’t get any better, the folks at Racine’s O&H Danish Bakery have partnered with Highland Park Whisky to create a limited-edition Whisky Kringle that lands just in time for Father’s Day.
This new creation is filled with a caramel that’s infused with Highland Park’s 12-year Viking Honour single malt scotch whisky, distilled on Orkney, in Scotland.
It’s topped with butter-laced streusel and a honey glaze (reflecting the color of the whisky) and drizzled with vanilla icing.
“We’re thrilled to be releasing this first-of-its-kind Whisky Kringle for fathers and single malt whisky lovers around the country to enjoy,” said Eric Olesen, third generation co-owner of O&H Danish Bakery.
“Highland Park is extremely proud of its history and doing things the right way. We thought they were absolutely the ideal partner when we looked for a new offering that would taste great and appeal to dads this Father’s Day.”
Although it’s a “small batch” kringle, it’s available now at the five O&H locations, as well as online at ohdanishbakery.com for delivery. It’s only available through Father’s Day, June 20.

Since we’re talking malt whisky kringles, it bears mentioning that the most recent O&H catalog also notes tha there will be a malted milk kringle – in honor of the invention at Racine’s Horlick Malted Milk of the heavenly powder – coming soon.
I fully expect these two to join my current favorite – chocolate hazelnut – in my top three kringle favorites.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
